Navigating Early has two very strong boy characters, Jack and Early. This story is set in the post World War II era. Jack has just lost his mom and his dad comes home to Kansas from the war to take him to Maine where he is stationed in the Army. Jack gets plopped into a Boarding School in Maine where he is having trouble fitting in and also missing his mom at the same time.
Jack accidentally meets Early who has a different way of seeing the world. You will enjoy both characters and they both will have moments that tug at your heart strings and make you laugh.
It is a great book about growing up and believing in things that are important to you.
This author also wrote Moon over Manifest which takes place in the 1930's.
